CLEVELAND, Ohio (9/26/15) – A goal in the 77
th minute snapped freshman
Claudia Eustaquio's three-game shutout streak and along with it, gave the University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team a 1-0 loss at Cleveland State on Saturday night in Horizon Leauge action.
The Titans came into the game riding a 2-0-1 streak in their last three games, but were shutout for the second consecutive match as they fell to the Vikings in primetime action.
Detroit and Cleveland State played a tough contest, with the Titans edging the Vikings 6-5 in shots on goal and with each team registering five corner kicks apiece.
The Titans defensive front hadn't allowed a goal in over three games, but saw that streak come to an end as the Vikings' leading scorer, Vicki Havas, put the game-winner in the back of the net in the 77
th minute.
Sophomore
Phylisha Drayton led Detroit with three shots, followed by junior
Anna Mindling with two shots. Eustaquio made four saves, but took the loss after allowing just one goal.
The loss drops Detroit to 4-5-1 overall and an even 1-1 in Horizon League play. Meanwhile, the Vikings improve to 5-4-1 overall and 1-0 in conference action.
How it Happened• Detroit's defense withstood a three-corner outburst by Cleveland State in an eight-minute stretch early in the first half.
