DETROIT (10/29/2016) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer program dropped its home finale Saturday afternoon, with visiting Green Bay scoring two second-half goals in a 2-0 Titan setback from Titan Field.

Prior to the game, the Titans honored four seniors who have been an integral part of the team in the past four seasons -- Marcus Barnett, Tommy Bowman, John D'Agostino and Matt Harkema. All four saw playing time during the Senior Day match.

The game was even in the first half with each team totaling four shots in the first stanza. Detroit Mercy had the first two shots on goal in the contest, with Spiro Pliakos putting one on net, followed by a Harkema shot that was turned away from a charging Kyle Ihn.

The Phoenix scored just after the break on a cross into the box that was finished to the left side of the net. Detroit Mercy freshman Garret Weaver nearly tied the game later in the second half on a shot that was tipped over the crossbar in the 63rd minute.

About 10 minutes later Martin Lang, Jr. had a good look on goal but sent a header attempt just wide of the net in the box. With time running out in the game, Pliakos sent a free kick towards the top of the goal, but Ihn was there to make the save.

Just after the Pliakos attempt, Green Bay scored its second goal on a one-touch in the box that was finished to the right side of the net.

Detroit Mercy led in shots in the contest, 13-10. The Titans had nine shots in the second half. Both sides had three corner kicks. Pliakos was credited with a game-high six shots, two of them on goal. Harkema had two more shots for the Titans.

All four seniors have been a big part of the Titan success in recent years with all of them playing a role in helping Detroit Mercy to the two lowest goals against averages in school history in 2014 and 2015. Harkema, a fifth-year senior, is tied for the active lead with nine goals, while Bowman leads the squad in points this season with eight. In the past four years, the four players have helped the squad to 22 victories in total.

The loss ended Detroit Mercy's aspirations at a Horizon League Championship spot for the 2016 season.
