DURHAM, N.H. (11/23/2016) -- Junior
Jaleel Hogan led three Titans in double figures with a season-high 18 points as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team fell, 86-70, on Wednesday afternoon at New Hampshire.
Hogan tallied 18 points and two rebounds in just 16 minutes of action due to foul trouble. Junior
DeShawndre Black netted a season-high 14 points with three rebounds and three assists and sophomore
Josh McFolley finished with 13 points, four rebounds and a team-high four assists.
New Hampshire (3-2) hit nine of its first 13 shots – including four 3-pointers – to take a 24-13 lead a little more than eight minutes into the game. The Wildcats would continue their double-digit advantage at 31-20 when Detroit Mercy (1-4) started to assert itself defensively, holding UNH to 0-of-9 shooting and just four points in a seven-minute span to get back in the game.
Hogan started the offensive spurt with two free throws and after baskets by McFolley, sophomore
Gerald Blackshear Jr. and senior
Jarod Williams, Black came alive with five-straight points, including a three to get the Titans within three, 33-30, with 3:19 left in the half.
The Wildcats were able to stop that charge and go on a 7-0 run, eventually taking a 44-36 lead into the break.
In the second half, UNH came out shooting again, but the Titans fought back to cut the deficit to seven, 49-42, with 15:52 left. Hogan had four points and Blackshear Jr. added a free throw for the 5-0 run. The Wildcats, though, then answered with an 11-1 charge to take control of the game.
Two late rallies by the Titans had the team within 11. The first was a 7-1 run to make it 68-57 at the 6:28 mark. Black began that with a layup and after a triple by McFolley, Jenkins slammed it in for two more. About five minutes later, Black hit a jumper and off a defensive rebound, McFolley found Hogan inside for a layup in transition for a 79-68 score with 1:38 on the clock.
Blackshear Jr. totaled nine points and a team-best seven rebounds. Williams had six points and three rebounds and freshman
Corey Allen added five.
The Titans shot 45.6 percent from the floor and committed just eight turnovers in the contest.
Detroit Mercy will finally return home as the Titans host Manhattan this Saturday, Nov. 26, in a 2 p.m. start at historic Calihan Hall. The contest is the final of the four-game NIT Season Tip-Off event for Detroit Mercy.

Game Notes:
It was the first game ever for the Titans in the state of New Hampshire… This was just the second career meeting between Detroit Mercy and New Hampshire following the 1978 Motor City Tournament 108-70 victory for the Titans… The contest marked a four-game road trip that covered over just over 5,000 miles in a 10-day span… Hogan has now been in double figures in four of the first five games… Black's previous season high was six points against Adrian in the season opener… Seven-foot freshman
Malik Eichler connected on a trey for the fourth time this year…
