Cal State Northridge (3-2) scored seven of the first nine points of the game on its home court, but the Titans were undeterred, pulling to within one point, 13-12, after a
Kelsey Mitchell bucket with 4:31 left in the first quarter. CSUN then went up 18-12, but Detroit Mercy scored the final four points of the opening stanza, with Reynolds converting on a lay-up with 43 ticks left and
Cortney Williams adding a jumper in the paint with just four seconds remaining.
The Matadors opened the second quarter on a big run, but the Titans would trim the advantage, hitting three 3-pointers in the second frame, two by
Haleigh Ristovski and the last by
Nicole Urbanick. Cohen then went to work in the final 1:04, scoring seven points, including converting on a tough 3-point play with just seconds left in the half. At the break, Detroit Mercy trailed 44-32.
The Titans would cut the CSUN lead down to 10 points late in the third quarter with the help from Mitchell, who scored the final five Titan points in the stanza. The CSUN lead was trimmed to 10 points twice more early in the fourth, but the Titans would get no closer until the final score as
Anja Marinkovic hit a 3-pointer with 22 seconds left on the scoreboard.
