MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (12/3/2016) -- It was raining 3-pointers Saturday at Minnesota with the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team hitting a single-game, school-record 16 triples, but the Titans were knocked off by the host Golden Gophers, 111-91.
Detroit Mercy (3-5) was knocking down 3-pointers from the very start of the game, hitting two in the opening minutes and finished 16-for-35 from beyond the arc. The Titans made eight 3-pointers in each half and started out strong from deep, sinking six in the first quarter.
Freshman guard
Anja Marinkovic was 7-for-11 from deep and finished with a team-high 29 points in the contest. Senior
Rosanna Reynolds added 20 points and seven assists, while juniors
Brianne Cohen and
Nicole Urbanick combined for six treys and had 14 and 12 points, respectively.
The Titans out-shot Minnesota both from the floor and from 3-point range during the game. The red, white and blue shot 48.0 percent from the floor, while Minnesota had a 47.7-percent shooting clip. Detroit Mercy was 45.7 from downtown and shot 55.3 percent overall in the second half.
Detroit Mercy scored 26 points in the first quarter to trail by five points after one, but Minnesota upped the advantage to double digits and led at the break, 56-38. The Titans came out on fire offensively in the second half, going for 30 points in the third quarter, a season high for a quarter.
The Titans trailed by 26 in the third, but would use a 21-9 run in the quarter to cut the Minnesota lead to 14 points. Marinkovic scored 10 of her points in the third quarter and 20 points in the second half alone, hitting four of her seven 3-pointers in the second half.
Detroit Mercy had a season-best 25 assists, the most for the Titans in the
Bernard Scott era.
Haleigh Ristovski had three first-half blocks, moving into the top 10 all-time on the career block list.
For Marinkovic, it was her first career game in double figures. She finished 11-of-19 from the floor and 7-of-11 from beyond the arc. She had her 29 points in just 24 minutes of play and more than doubled her season total for 3-pointers made. Reynolds reached 20 points for the 15th time in her career and the second time this season.
Kelsey Mitchell added a team-best six rebounds off the bench, while
Gracie Roberts had a season-best four points and dished out three assists for the Titans.

• Marinkovic was one off the school record for 3-pointers in a game, set by teammate
Nicole Urbanick last season.
• Marinkovic's 29 points ties the season-best for a Titan as Reynolds also had 29 in the season opener at Delaware State.
• Detroit Mercy has reached the 90-point plateau twice this season.
• Reynolds had five or more assists for the sixth time this year.
• It was just the second career meeting between the two schools -- both of them at Williams Arena in Minneapolis.
