DETROIT (3/6/2016) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team played in its second game in three days on Sunday afternoon, falling to visiting Marquette by a final of 14-5. It was the first game played at Titan Field this season.

Senior defender Ally Shrader was active all day for the Titans (0-4), scooping up five ground balls and four draw controls. Freshman Kaitlyn Wandelt posted two goals for the Titans, while senior Kylie Birney, freshman Lexie Kinmond and sophomore Kelsi Pritchard all added goals for Detroit. Senior Michaela Schwartz and Pritchard each had assists.

Marquette led 8-1 at the half and led 9-1 after tallying the first of the second half, but Detroit showed its fight, scoring three-straight goals to pull to within five, 9-4. Birney scored off a free-position chance to open the run and Pritchard followed with a free-position goal. Wandelt scored her first of the day off a feed from Schwartz to give Detroit its third consecutive marker.

The Golden Eagles (2-4) tallied the next three, before Wandelt scored her second of the day with 8:19 left in the game.

Freshman goalkeeper Allison McDonough made nine saves in net for Detroit, while adding five ground balls. Wandelt also finished with four ground balls. Kinmond had two draw controls, while sophomore defender Lauren Webley forced two caused turnovers.

Marquetted had the edge in shots, 31-15. Both teams had five draw controls in the first half and the Golden Eagles finished with the advantage for the game, 13-8. Detroit was 17-for-25 in clears during the contest.

Up Next
The Titans opened a three-game homestand on Sunday and have two home contests next week, hosting VCU on Friday, March 11 before welcoming Delaware State to Detroit on Sunday, March 13. Both games are to be played at Titan Field. Friday's game is set for 2 p.m. while Sunday's is slated for an 11 a.m. start.
