FAIRBORN, Ohio (1/20/2017) -- Sophomore
Josh McFolley netted a team-high 25 points and senior
Chris Jenkins tallied a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, but the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team dropped a 106-88 battle to a hot-shooting Wright State team on Friday night at the Nutter Center.
Â
McFolley was 8-of-14 from the field and 6-of-11 from behind the arc with five assists and two steals. Freshman
Corey Allen scored 18 points with three assists and was 7-of-13 shooting with three triples, while freshman
Cole Long posted season highs with nine points and seven rebounds.
Â
Both teams came out on fire right from the start hoisting up 17 combined shots in the first four minutes as Wright State (13-7, 4-3 HL) took a 13-11 lead. Sophomore
Gerald Blackshear Jr. had a couple of early field goals and Jenkins had seven at that point.
Â
The Titans (4-15, 2-5 HL) hit eight of their first 10 shots in the game as the lead went back and forth with a few ties. A three by McFolley knotted it at 16-16 and later on, a triple from Allen squared things at 22-all with 13:34 left.
Â
The red, white and blue took the lead on junior
Jaleel Hogan's jumper after that and also led, 26-25, at the 11:35 mark as Jenkins drained an open look.
Â
From there, the Titan offense went a bit cold, but Wright State continued its torrid pace making six treys in the first 20 minutes and connecting on 16-of-20 at the free throw line for a 60-38 lead at the break.
Â
The Titans shot 51.7 percent from the field with five treys, but also had 12 turnovers in the first half.
Â
Wright State was still shooting the ball well in the second half and the Titans started to cool off as the Raiders ran their lead to as many as 28, 84-56, with 8:25 left in the game.
Â
Detroit Mercy showed plenty of fight though and with McFolley hitting from long range, the Titans trimmed the deficit to 16, 89-73, with 5:35 left and again at 93-73, with 4:45 on the clock, but that was as close as it got.
Â
Senior
Jarod Williams ended with seven points and senior
Patrick Robinson Jr., and junior
DeShawndre Black chipped in with five points apiece.
Â
The Titans finished the contest shooting 47.5 percent with 13, 3-pointers.Â
Â
Detroit Mercy will look to regroup as it heads to Northern Kentucky on Sunday. Game time is set for 1 p.m., at the BB&T Arena and the game will be on ESPN3Â and ESPN College Extra.
