DETROIT (12/4/2017) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team scored 17 of the first 24 points of the game against #24/20-ranked Michigan on Monday night from Calihan Hall, but the Titans were unable to maintain their quick start in an 86-50 loss.

Detroit Mercy, which has shown a quick start in first quarters all season, hit five 3-pointers in the opening four minutes of the contest to open a 17-7 lead over Michigan with 6:15 left in the first quarter.

Sophomore Anja Marinkovic hit the first triple and was followed after a Michigan turnover by senior Nicole Urbanick's 200th career 3-pointer to make it a quick 6-3 lead. Freshman Lexey Tobel followed just seconds later with a 3-pointer and then Tobel found senior Brianne Cohen for a 3-pointer from the top of the key. Junior Brittney Jackson was the fifth to sink a triple, giving Detroit Mercy a 17-7 lead just 3:45 into the game.

Michigan chipped away at the lead in the first quarter and after one, the game was tied 20-20. The Wolverines shot 60 percent in the opening half overall as Michigan scored 27 second-quarter points to take a 47-28 lead at the halftime break. Cohen led the Titans at the half with nine points.

The Wolverines opened a bigger lead in the third quarter with Detroit Mercy unable to get on the scoreboard early in the frame. Sophomores Ashley Miller and Zoey Oatis had back-to-back buckets under the five-minute mark of the third, but Michigan continued to convert on the offensive end.

Tobel, who scored a team-best 14 points, scored five-straight points at the tail-end at the third quarter, hitting her second 3-pointer of the game and then sinking a tough jumper on the base line with 11 ticks left in the third.

Jackson converted on back-to-back lay-ups late in the fourth quarter to become the second Titan in double figures with 10 points, tying a season-best for points and just two off her career-high.

Tobel finished with 14 points, Jackson followed with 10 and Cohen had nine points for the Titans in the game. Tobel was 5-of-12 from the floor, making two 3-pointers and both free throw attempts. Miller and junior Gracie Roberts each grabbed four rebounds for Detroit Mercy.

Detroit Mercy shot 31 percent in the contest (18-for-58) and connected on six 3-pointers in the game. The red, white and blue were 8-for-14 from the free throw line.

The Titans also forced Michigan into 20 turnovers in the game, scoring 21 points off of those turnovers. Detroit Mercy was out-rebounded in the contest, 47-25.
