Titans Drop First Match in Road Setback at Green Bay

GREEN BAY, Wis. (9/16/2017) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team suffered its first setback of the 2017 season on Saturday night, falling 3-1 on the road to host Green Bay. It was the second Horizon League match for both squads with Detroit Mercy falling to 4-1-1 and 1-1 in league play.

Graduate transfer Dalton Amez (Macomb, Mich. / Chippewa Valley) scored the first goal of his Titan career in the 24th minute of the match for Detroit Mercy. He also led the team with four shots in a match that saw Detroit Mercy out-shoot the Phoenix, 21-9.

Green Bay struck first in the contest, tallying a goal nine minutes into the contest. The Phoenix scored the go-ahead goal in the 80th minute and added another with just over a minute left.

Senior forward Spiro Pliakos (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester) and freshman forward Mohamad Miri (Canton, Mich. / Canton) each added three shots for the Titans. Seven different members of Detroit Mercy were credited with multiple shots during the match.

Detroit Mercy had the edge in shots in each half, holding a 9-4 edge in the first half and 12-5 margin after the halftime break. Each team had three corner kicks.

The defeat ended the Titans' longest unbeaten streak to start the season since 2002, when the Titans began the year 7-0-1.

First Half
• Green Bay struck first in the match, tallying a goal at the 9:03 mark of the first half.
• Titan GK Robbie Beckwell made a save just minutes later, his first of four during the match.
• Detroit Mercy had consecutive shots with Tyler Hughes & Jake Reitzloff getting looks in the 13th and 15th minutes.
• Amez had a flurry of shots in the 22nd and 23rd minutes, before his third shot beat the keeper to the left to knot the game, 1-1.
• Just minutes later, Hughes hit the crossbar with a shot in the 28th minute.
• Pliakos pushed a shot wide right in the 34th minute as the last shot of the half for Detroit Mercy.

Second Half
• Amez had the first look after the break, but his shot was saved.
• Detroit Mercy had five of the next six shots in the next 15 minutes of the match.
Tyler Moorman had a look on goal in the 68th minute, followed by Miri's shot on goal in the 71st minute.
• Green Bay pushed over its second goal in the 80th minute to go up 2-1.
• Miri's shot in the 83rd minute went wide and Garret Weaver had a header saved in the 87th minute.
• The Phoenix finished the scoring in the 88th minute, taking a 3-1 lead.

Titan News & Notes
• The 21 shots for the Titans were a season best.
• The goal for Amez was his second collegiate goal. He had one goal in three seasons at Division II Northwood.
• Amez entered the match with one shot before putting firing four on Saturday, two of them on goal.
• The Titans are in the middle of a stretch where they play six of seven away from Titan Field.
• Two Detroit Mercy players have played every minute this season (Robbie Beckwell, Garret Weaver).

Detroit Mercy returns to the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 20 with a road contest at Big Ten foe Penn State. The match is set for a 7 p.m. ET start time and is slated to be broadcasted live on Big Ten Network Plus.
