INDIANAPOLIS (1/11/2018) -- Three Titans scored in double figures Thursday night, but the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team dropped a 90-62 contest to host IUPUI in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

Freshman Lexey Tobel scored a team-high 16 points off the bench for Detroit Mercy, while seniors Brianne Cohen and Nicole Urbanick each finished with 13 points in the contest for the Titans.

Detroit Mercy shot 40 percent in the game (20-for-50), including 7-for-17 from behind the arc (41 percent). The Titans had a season-high 10 steals, with seven different players recording at least one steal in the game.

The Jaguars were also efficient shooting the ball in the game, hitting 49 percent of their shots. IUPUI had the advantage in rebounding, 48-25.

IUPUI opened the game on an 8-0 run and would take an 18-3 lead midway through the first quarter, but Detroit Mercy closed the stanza on a 9-4 run with Tobel scoring seven of the nine points. Sophomore Ashley Miller opened the run with a pair of free throws before Tobel converted on an old-fashioned 3-point play with 1:19 left in the quarter. Tobel then converted on a tough lay-up with 40 ticks left before knocking down two from the foul line before the first-quarter buzzer.

The Titans trailed after the first, 24-15, but Tobel was quickly into double figures, hitting a triple early in the second quarter. Urbanick connected on a 3-pointer from the wing later in the second, but IUPUI would go on to take a 51-26 halftime advantage behind a 55-percent first-half shooting clip. Tobel had 13 points at the break for the red, white and blue.

Cohen and sophomore Zoey Oatis did most of the damage in the third quarter for Detroit Mercy. Cohen scored the first nine Titan points in the third stanza. Oatis scored in the next five points before Cohen hit her second 3-pointer of the frame. Urbanick and sophomore Anja Marinkovic each sank a pair of free throws late in the quarter, but Detroit Mercy trailed after three, 69-48.

Tobel made her third 3-pointer of the game 80 seconds into the fourth quarter after junior Brittney Jackson made a jumper from the corner just seconds earlier. Urbanick followed with a trey, but the Jaguars continued to hold their advantage in the contest.

Jackson and Oatis each scored six points for Detroit Mercy. Cohen had a team-best five boards, while Cohen, Jackson and Tobel all had two steals.
