DETROIT (11/3/2018) -- Senior
Josh McFolley hit a game-winning three-pointer with less than two seconds left as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team downed Wayne State, 79-76, on Saturday night in the 3rd Annual City College Series.
The charity exhibition basketball game made $3,070 in ticket sales and with proud partner Michigan First Credit Union's matching donation, $6,140 was raised for Detroit Public Schools, K-5.
Freshman
Antoine Davis led all scorers with 20 points and also had four assists and three rebounds. McFolley scored 17 points and had four steals and graduate senior
Derrien King added 10 points, three assists, three steals and two boards.
The Titans were ahead by eight three times in the final three minutes, but Wayne State knotted the game at 76-76 with 15 seconds remaining. That is when McFolley got the ball and drained a triple from the top of the key with just under two seconds on the clock for the win.

Jacob Holland added seven points and six boards, while freshman
Chris Brandon grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
The defense forced 18 turnovers and tallied 11 steals, while limiting the Warriors to just seven free throw attempts.Â
Detroit Mercy will officially start the 2018-19 campaign on Tuesday as the red, white and blue visit Western Michigan. Tip is set for 7 p.m. and will be televised live on ESPN3 or you can listen on 910 AM Superstation.Â
First Half:
- Davis scored the game's first points on a jumper and a three from McFolley had the Titans up 6-2
- Davis would later go on a 5-0 run on a basket and 3-pointer for a 13-7 lead just four minutes in
- Detroit Mercy went on a 7-0 run to open a 24-15 advantage midway through the half
- Davis started the run with a triple and then senior Cole Long had four-straight points on two free throws and a tip-in off an offensive board
- The lead went to 10, 27-17, as King buried a trey at the 9:33 mark and later to 11, 31-20, at 7:57 as Davis connected on two more free throws
- Wayne State ended the half on a 20-9 run as the game went into the break tied at 40-40
Second Half:
- Wayne State scored to take a quick 42-40 lead, but the Titans then scored seven-straight points, which started on a King three
- Davis had a jumper and then off a steal, McFolley jammed it in for a 47-42 lead with 16:54 left
- Off a rebound, McFolley was able to get to the rim and lay it in to extend the lead to 56-49 with 12:33 remaining
- WSU got within two, 56-54, but junior Tra'Quan Knight had a jumper and two free throws from King made it 60-54 at 6:54
- Hamrick nailed a triple to make it 63-56 with 6:14 remaining
- Detroit Mercy raised its leads to eight, 70-62, as Knight corralled a defensive rebound and on the other end laid one in
- The Titans also led by eight on two more occasions, 73-65 and 75-67 with under a minute to go, but WSU rallied to tie the game at 76-76
- That is when McFolley got the ball and drilled the three for the victory
