TOLEDO, Ohio (12/5/2018) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team took the tough journey with back-to-back road games and came up with a 101-57 setback at Toledo on Wednesday.
Freshman
Antoine Davis led the way with 19 points, netting five more 3-pointers to push his NCAA lead to 54 on the year and also collected a team-high six rebounds and four assists.
Junior
Harrison Curry made his Titan debut and ended with 16 points, three rebounds and two blocks, while graduate senior
Jacob Holland scored seven points.
Toledo (8-1) took the lead with an early 11-2 run and never looked back as Detroit Mercy (3-7) fought an uphill battle all game long.
Detroit Mercy will now have a week-long break with finals coming up and will be back in action next Saturday, Dec. 15, when the Titans welcome Ohio into Calihan Hall for a 1 p.m. tip.
First Half:
- Toledo opened with an 11-2 run in the first three minutes
- Curry then scored his first Titan points with a 3-pointer
- The Rockets had a 23-7 lead when Curry added a layup and free throw with 9:01 left
- A three by Davis pulled the Titans within 12, 27-15, with 8:31 on the clock
Second Half:
- Toledo ran its lead to 30 before two free throws from Curry and a driving layup by Holland at the 14:38 mark
- The Rockets ran their lead back in the 30's but a three from Davis made it 77-48 with 6:50 remaining
Game Notes:
- Toledo now leads the all-time series, 34-25, including 21-7 at home
- The game was the sixth of seventh match-ups on the year versus the MAC
- Curry played in just one game last season with Louisiana Tech and suffered a season-ending injury in the opener
- Head coach Mike Davis played at Toledo last year when he was the head coach of Texas Southern
- Holland has scored seven points in back-to-back games
- Davis came into the game second in the nation averaging 28.3 points and leading the country in total field goals, three-pointers, 3-pointers per game and total points
