DETROIT (3/2/2018) -- Five Titans scored in double figures, led by redshirt junior
Kameron Chatman's 20 points, but one final run by Green Bay ended the year as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team fell, 93-81, on Friday night in the opening round of Motor City Madness at Little Caesars Arena.
Chatman was 8-of-15 from the field with three 3-pointers and also pulled down four rebounds.
Sophomore
Corey Allen added 18 points and three boards and junior
Josh McFolley scored 11 points and tallied three rebounds and three assists. Senior
DeShawndre Black had 10 points and three assists and graduate senior
Roschon Prince finished with seven points, six rebounds and a team and career-high five assists.
Jermaine Jackson Jr. had five points, four rebounds and two assists and sophomore
Cole Long posted 10 points to round out the scoring.
The Titans got off to a slow start as Green Bay scored the game's first five points and led 19-8 with 12:43 left. The Phoenix would push that lead to as many as 21, 37-16, until Detroit Mercy started chipping away, trailing 47-33 at the break.
Detroit Mercy used a 25-9 run over the end of the first period and nearly eight minutes into the second to surge ahead, 58-56, with 12:20 remaining. The Titans also led by one at 60-59, with 11:33 left when Green Bay went back in front on a 14-3 spurt.
The Titans (8-24) shot 46.0 percent from the field with 11 triples, but Green Bay (13-19) ended the game shooting 51.8 percent with 13 baskets from behind the arc.
First Half:
- Green Bay scored first and led 8-2 just three minutes in.
- A three by Black cut it to 8-5, but the Phoenix scored the next six points to go ahead, 14-5.
- Green Bay opened a double-digit lead at 19-8 at the 12:43 mark and then led by 21, 37-16, with 7:47 on the clock.
- A three by McFolley ended that run and the Titans trimmed the deficit to 13, 42-29, with 2:05 left as McFolley had a steal and layup.
- Off a Green Bay turnover, Black had the last basket of the half to get the Titans within 14, 47-33, and that score would start a 25-9 charge.
Second Half:
- Prince started the second half with an offensive rebound and tip-in and then Chatman drilled a three to get the red, white and blue within nine, 47-38, with 19 minutes left.
- Green Bay led by 10, 50-40, but a layup by Prince and another trey by Chatman cut that in half, 50-45, at the 17:07 mark.
- Chatman's third 3-pointer got the team even closer at 54-50 and after that, Long had a steal and slam and the Titans were down by just two, 56-54, with 13:32 left.
- The Titans took the lead on a 6-0 spurt as Prince had another offensive board and putback and then Chatman scored going to the hole to make it 56-56.
- The Titan defense held Green Bay scoreless and on the other end, Long got to the rim for a basket and Detroit Mercy led, 58-56, with 12:20 on the scoreboard.
- The Titans also led by one, 60-59, on two free throws from Long, but Green Bay was able to recover going on an 11-0 run over the next two minutes.
- The Phoenix led by 12 at 74-62, when Chatman had a layup and Jackson Jr. hit a three to make it a seven-point game, 74-67, with 7:20 left.
- An Allen three also had the team within seven, 77-70, but Green Bay was able to stop the comeback.

- The Titans trail the all-time series, 31-25
- The last team to beat the Titans three times in a season was Valparaiso in 2011
- It was the 15th time this season the Titans made double-digit 3-pointers
- It was the final game for four Titan seniors in Black, Prince, Jaleel Hogan and Isaiah Jones
- Chatman's 14, 20-point games were the most by a Titan since Juwan Howard Jr. had 14 in 2013-14
- Chatman became just the sixth Titan since 1980 to lead the team in scoring and rebounding
- Allen was in double figures for the 22nd time this season in his 29 games
- McFolley passed Terry Duerod for ninth place in school history with 146 career steals
- Prince ended his collegiate career with 945 points, 593 rebounds and 98 assists playing in 127 career games with USC, Long Beach State and Detroit Mercy
