ANN ARBOR (3/25/2018) -- Playing its third Big Ten opponent of the 2018 season, the University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team dropped a 14-7 contest at the University of Michigan on Sunday afternoon from U-M Lacrosse Stadium in Ann Arbor.

It was the third meeting all-time between the two programs and second in as many seasons. Detroit Mercy (3-5) also played nationally-ranked Northwestern and Ohio State earlier this season during non-conference play.

The Titans out-shot Michigan in the second half of the game, 18-13, and were just edged in total shots by a 32-27 margin. Detroit Mercy also had more draw controls in the second half (6-5) and had 11 draws to Michigan's 12 during the contest. Detroit Mercy made more saves in the game, 12-10.

Individually, senior attacker Jordyn Beam had three points on two goals and one assist. Freshman Kamryn Corraro had two goals, while junior Morgan Girardi tallied one goal and one assist. Redshirt sophomore Kaitlyn Wandelt had team-highs with five draw controls and three ground balls, with sophomore Tegan McManus nabbing a career-high four draw controls. On defense, junior goalkeeper Allison McDonough turned away 12 shots, while senior defender Lauren Webley had two caused turnovers.

The Titans opened the game strong, with Corraro finding the back of the net twice in the opening 11 minutes of the contest. Corraro's second goal was her fifth of the season and trimmed the Michigan lead to 3-2 with 19:13 left in the opening half. After Michigan scored a goal, the Titans again cut the lead to one, 4-3, with freshman Meredith Moore spinning her way through a group of Wolverines and then beating the U-M goalkeeper.

McDonough and the Titan defense were strong during the game, with the junior goalkeeper turning away eight shots on goal in the opening half. Detroit Mercy had four of its six caused turnovers in the first half and allowed just four Michigan goals in the first 19 minutes of the game.

The Wolverines would find the back of the net four times before the break as the Titans trailed 8-3 at halftime. The Titan defense allowed just two goals in the first 16 minutes of the second half, but were unable to find the back of the net themselves.

Michigan went ahead 13-4 with 13:04 left in the game, before Detroit Mercy scored four of the final six goals. Girardi scored her 13th goal of the season on a free-position shot and then Beam tallied the first of two free-position goals. With 2:36 left, Beam found an open Kristina Ellis, who fired a tough-angled shot past the goalkeeer and into the net. Beam then scored her 16th goal of the year and second in the game with just 42 ticks left.

Detroit Mercy was effective on clears during the game, going 17-of-20 overall, including 10-of-10 in the second half. The Titans were 3-of-5 on free-position opportunities in the second half and forced 13 Michigan turnovers overall. Detroit Mercy had 12 ground balls, while Michigan finished with 14.

Corraro finished with two ground balls and one draw control in addition to her two goals. Webley and McManus also had two ground balls each.
