PITTSBURGH (9/18/2018) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team dropped a non-conference match Tuesday night on the road, falling 2-0 at Pittsburgh. The Titans were tied with the Panthers, 0-0, at the halftime break, but gave up both goals in the span of 71 seconds in the second half.
Detroit Mercy, playing its sixth road game out of seven to open the 2018 season, turned away all three shots on goal in the first half to help preserve a scoreless match early. Pittsburgh scored in the 54th minute and followed with a second goal just one minute later in the 55th minute to take a 2-0 lead that would stand.
Sophomore forward
Mohamad Miri had a good scoring opportunity just 16 seconds into the second half, but his shot was turned aside.
The red, white and blue were out-shot in the match, 16-2. Detroit Mercy had two corner kicks.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper
Devin Mendez tied a season-high with five saves in his fourth start of the season. Miri and redshirt sophomore midfielder
Collin Cavanaugh had shots for Detroit Mercy.
It was the second career meeting between the two programs and second in three seasons. Detroit Mercy and Pittsburgh tied 0-0 in the 2016 season opener in a match also played in Pittsburgh. It was the second match for Detroit Mercy in Pittsburgh this season after the Titans fell at Duquesne on Sept. 2.
