DELAND, Fla. (9/2/2018) -- Senior
Marina Manzo matched her season-high 10 with saves for the second-straight game as the University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team came away with a 0-0 draw at Stetson on Sunday afternoon.
Manzo had six saves in the first half – including one on a penalty kick – and another four the rest of the way as she became just the third goalie in school history to reach the 300 save plateau.Â
Freshman
Julie Ann Piechocki was credited with a team-high four shots, while junior
Megan Pace and sophomore
Kelli Doyle had three apiece.
After getting outshot, 9-2, in the first 45 minutes, the Titans completely turned the game around coming out of the break posting 14-7 the rest of the way. Â
Detroit Mercy will now get ready for another road game, this time closer to home as it visits Toledo on Thursday.Â
First Half
- The Titans had the first shot of the game as freshman Hannah Alexis' shot was high just a couple of minutes in
- Manzo made her first save in the sixth minute
- Stetson had chances after that with a shot that went high, a corner kick and finally, Manzo coming up with a save at 11:58
- The Titans had a corner kick at 27:35 that did not result in a shot
- Manzo then turned away a shot in the 37th minute before Stetson was awarded a corner kick off a yellow card, where Manzo stood strong and dove to her left to stop that attempt in the 38th minute
- Stetson had one more chance at a score, but Manzo recorded her sixth save of the half at 41:52
Second Half
- Stetson came out with some pressure to start the second half and Parra had to kick the ball away as the last line of defense three minutes in
- The resulting corner  saw Manzo save a header attempt
- The Titans started to apply the offensive pressure halfway through the period as Piechocki's shot was just tipped over the net at 62:48
- Detroit Mercy's ensuing corner kick saw the ball eventually make its way to Doyle and that was saved in the 65th minute, and another of her attempts was high a couple of minutes later
- Piechocki then had another chance that was blocked by a defender at 70:39
- In the 83rd minute off a Stetson yellow card, senior Carly Fiorido's free kick from just outside the box was saved
- Two minutes after that Doyle had another shot that went high at 83:59 and Fiorido sent one above the cage almost a minute later
First Overtime
- Manzo had to make another save just two minutes in, stopping a near one-on-one attempt
- On the other end, Piechocki fired a shot high at 93:03 and freshman Nasreen Kobeissi's boot was saved at 97:41
- Off a misplayed ball by Stetson, Pace had an opportunity to end it, but her shot just went wide left in the 98th minute
Second Overtime
- Pace had a shot that was high in the 105th minute
- Manzo came up with her season-high 10th save at 104:54
Game Notes
- The Titans are now 1-1-1 all-time against Stetson
- Manzo now has 303 career saves, just 11 shy of Katie Fortenberry's 314 for second place, while moving past her into second in goals-against average with a 1.30
- Pace had just one career shot coming into the game
- Manzo's career high in saves is 13 at Green Bay in 2014
