Davis Nets 31, Miller Scores 1,000 Point As Titans Drop Jesuit Showdown At #1 Gonzaga

SPOKANE, Wash. (12/30/2019) -- Senior Justin Miller had a special moment scoring his 1,000th career point and sophomore Antoine Davis netted a game-high 31 as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team fell, 93-72, on the road to top-ranked Gonzaga on Monday night.

It was the sixth time in school history that the Titans have played the No. 1 school in the country and the first since Michigan in the 1977 NCAA Tournament in Dick Vitale's final game as a head coach.

Davis was 11-of-23 from the field and 5-of-11 from behind the arc with five rebounds. Sophomore Chris Brandon had his first career double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds to go with a career-best five blocks and Miller ended with a season-high 17 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Detroit Mercy (2-12) shot nearly 50.0 percent in the first half of play as they battled Gonzaga (14-1) early on. It was 6-6 in the first two minutes of play before the Zags went on a run to open a double-digit lead.

The Titans would go on a couple of 7-0 runs in the game and Davis was feeling it all around, hitting a couple of baskets with defenders around him.

Miller scored 11 of his 17 in the second half and got inside for his 1,000 point with just over three minutes to go.

Detroit Mercy finished the game shooting 42.2 percent with nine from the outside and were also 9-of-12 at the line. The Titans were also outrebounded by just five, 40-35.

The Titans will now get back into Horizon League play as they welcome NKU into Calihan Hall on Friday, Jan. 3, in a 7 p.m. tip.

  • Isiani hit a 3-pointer and it was 50-35 with under two minutes to go

Second Period:
  • Davis knocked down a 3-pointer to make it 65-40 with 15:42 left
