Mendell Ties Career High With Six Goals As Titans Trap Bonnies

DETROIT (3/9/2019) -- Junior Seth Mendell tied his career high with six goals and the University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team took control early with a 6-0 run en route to a 16-8 road victory at St. Bonaventure on Saturday night.

With the win, the Titans moved to 4-2 on the season and 1-0 in the MAAC, while the Bonnies fell to 0-4, 0-2 in conference play.

Junior Alex Jarzembowski was 19-of-22 in faceoffs with a game-high 13 ground balls as he set another school record pushing his all-time win total to 340, passing Brandon Davenport's school mark of 334.

Mendell led nine Titan goal scorers with his six goals, tying his career high that he had as a freshman against Bellarmine. Sophomore Ryan Figueiras and freshman AJ Van Voorhis each had two goals and senior Matthew Vangalen picked up three assists.

Detroit Mercy trailed 1-0 before scoring six-straight goals to take a 6-1 lead midway through the second period. The Titans tacked on two more goals and led 8-3 at the break and then had a stretch of scoring five of six goals between the third period and early in the fourth to increase its advantage to 13-5 with 10 minutes left.

Sophomore Logan Shamblin made 11 saves and sophomores Paul Manuszak and Brett Erskine each posted a goal, an assist, two caused turnovers and three ground balls.

Junior Alex Akins and redshirt sophomore Sam McClain each registered three caused turnovers, with Akins picking up six ground balls, and senior Brent Lubin picked up a career-best four ground balls.

Detroit Mercy outshot St. Bonaventure, 56-32, and won the battle of ground balls, 50-25. The Titans were also 23-of-25 on clears and saw the Bonnies commit 22 turnovers.

The Titans will be back in action next Saturday, Mar. 16, when the red, white and blue travel to Quinnipiac for a high Noon contest.
