Titans Tripped Up At Cleveland State

CLEVELAND, Ohio (4/24/2019) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team took a little time out of finals week to meet Cleveland State as the Titans dropped an 11-9 decision to the Vikings on Wednesday.

It was the first of two non-conference games to end the regular season for the red, white and blue, who already clinched a spot in the MAAC Championships next week.

Senior Matthew Vangalen and sophomore Ryan Figueiras each scored two goals, while five other Titans notched markers in the contest.

Sophomore Logan Shamblin started in net and made nine saves in the first half, while senior Michael Turnbull posted 12 stops in the second half. Sophomore Paul Manuszak tallied a goal and a team-high five ground balls and redshirt junior Sam McClain registered his first collegiate goal and had a GB.

Cleveland State (8-7) took a 9-3 lead early in the third when Detroit Mercy (8-5, 5-2 MAAC) came back with four-straight goals to pull within two, 9-7, with 5:38 left in the period. The Titans also got to within two at 11-9 with 5:46 left in the game after scoring a pair of goals.

Cleveland State led in shots (52-28) and ground balls (49-29) as the Titans played a season-high 35 student-athletes. The Vikings - who came into the game 21st in the nation on the man-up at 39.2 percent (20-51) - were 0-of-6 in the contest.
