WASHINGTON, D.C. (4/5/2019) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team recorded its first shutout in program history, also tying the school record for goals in a game with the Titans rolling past Howard on Friday afternoon, 23-0, from Greene Stadium. The 23-goal margin of victory was also the largest margin for a win in school history.

Detroit Mercy (4-7) dominated from start-to-finish in the road victory and the team saw 11 Titans find the back of the net, including the first career goals for Titan freshmen Jess Turner and Emily Beazley. The red, white and blue scored on their very first shot just 21 seconds into the game and racked up nine goals in the first nine minutes of the contest, scoring on their first nine shots.

The Titans rolled from there as the defense was also stout all game long, totaling 16 caused turnovers and allowing just three shots on goal total and just one shot on goal in the final 52 minutes of the contest. The Titans had a 31-7 shot advantage total in the contest. Detroit Mercy was up 4-0 just after the game started with junior Kaitlyn Wandelt winning four consecutive draw controls and Detroit Mercy scoring on each possession.

Senior attacker Lexie Kinmond led the way offensively with a career-best six goals and seven points, surpassing the 50-point plateau for the fourth time in her Titan career. Wandelt and freshman midfielder Elise Harder each added three goals, while senior attacker Emma Leszczak, sophomore attacker Kamryn Corraro and freshman attacker Julianne Snyder all scored twice for Detroit Mercy. Senior midfielder Morgan Girardi posted five points, totaling a career-best four assists, while sophomore attacker Kristina Ellis had three points on a goal and two assists.

Freshmen Taryn McManus and both Turner and Beazley found the back of the net to round out the 11 Titans who scored, with Beazley's first collegiate goal off a pass from Girardi equaling the school record with just 2:37 left on the clock. Turner had a two-point day, adding one assist.

The Titans were extremely efficient on the day, putting 30 of 31 shots on goal (96.7 percent) and allowing just seven Howard shots total and only three on net. Detroit Mercy posted 16 caused turnovers in the game, helping force 19 Howard turnovers total. The Bison were just 6-of-15 on clear attempts (40 percent), while the red, white and blue went a perfect 10-for-10 on clears.

Detroit Mercy goalkeepers were only required to make three saves with senior goalkeeper Allison McDonough turning away two early in the first half, before sophomore GK Maddie Johnson made the third save late in the contest. Ellis led the team with three caused turnovers, while five more players each had two caused turnovers -- Girardi, junior midfielder Maeve Grady (making her first collegiate start), Leszczak, senior defender Alex McCafferty and Snyder.

Wandelt tallied seven draw controls in the game and Kinmond and Ellis each added three DC for the Titans, which held a 17-8 advantage on draws during the game. Ellis led the squad with three ground balls and seven other players scooped up multiple ground balls. Detroit Mercy was also 6-for-8 on free-position shots.

Detroit Mercy held a 12-0 halftime lead before scoring the final 11 goals in the second half. The Titans scored 10 goals in the first 12 minutes of the contest. Kinmond scored three goals in each half for Detroit Mercy. Harder scored all three of her goals in the second half and Wandelt had a hat trick by the halftime break for the red, white and blue.
