DAYTON, Ohio (9/17/2019) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team dropped a non-conference road match Tuesday evening, falling to host Dayton University by a 5-0 margin from Baujan Field in Dayton. It was the first meeting between the two men's soccer programs since 2014.
The Flyers took a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute and extended their lead to 3-0 by halftime. Dayton scored two goals after the break to complete the scoring.
Detroit Mercy was credited with 16 shots in the contest, but had just one shot on goal, by junior midfielder
Daniel Iyok in the second half. Five Titans had multiple shots in the match, led by sophomore forward
Kyle Bandyk's four shots. Iyok and junior midfielder
Collin Cavanaugh each had three shots, while sophomore forward and senior defender
Justin Schueneman both had two shots for the red, white and blue.
Dayton finished with 21 shots in the game, six of them on net. The Flyers also had the edge in corner kicks, 6-2.
It was the ninth meeting between the two schools in men's soccer and first since the 2014 campaign.
