CLEMSON, S.C. (9/2/2019) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team suffered an 8-0 road setback to ACC foe Clemson on Monday evening from Historic Riggs Field. It was the second match of the season for the Titans (1-1), first road contest of the year and first-ever meeting with Clemson in men's soccer.

The Tigers (2-0), receiving votes in the most recent United Soccer Coaches poll, scored three first-half goals before adding five after the halftime break.

Detroit Mercy had eight shots in the game, with four of those coming on net. Junior midfielder Demetri Pliakos led the team with two shots, putting one shot on goal. Junior midfielder Daniel Iyok and sophomore forwards Kyle Bandyk and Ryan Pierson each added shots on goal for the Titans.

In net, sophomore goalkeeper Devin Mendez made seven saves. Clemson finished the game with 26 shots, 15 of them on goal.

Detroit Mercy returns to the pitch on Friday, heading from the East coast to the West to play against San Diego in California. The match is set for a 10 p.m. ET start and 7 p.m. in San Diego. It's the second of three-straight road matches with the Titans then taking on San Diego State on Sunday.
