Detroit Mercy & Green Bay Battle To Scoreless Draw Under The Lights At Titan Field

DETROIT (9/28/19) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team pitched a shutout on Student Appreciation Night and a defensive matchup between Horizon League conference foe Green Bay Phoenix as the game ended in a 0-0 draw in the first-ever night home women's soccer game in school history.

Detroit Mercy (2-6-2, 0-1-1 HL) and Green Bay (6-4-1, 0-1-1 HL) combined for just 14 shots as defense was showcased all over the field. 

Sophomore Cece Muskovac made two saves for the Titans and senior goalie Amanda Emke made her collegiate debut late in the game and came up with a key save herself to help get the red, white and blue a point in the standings.

Redshirt sophomore Riley McCleese had three shots with two on net and junior Kelli Doyle had the other look on goal. 

The Titans will now head to Rochester on Wednesday, Oct. 2, for a #MetroSeries matchup with rival Oakland with game time set for 7 p.m.  

First Period:
  • Some physical play early on had eight fouls called in the first 20 minutes
  • Green Bay had the first shot of the contest go wide at 25:22
  • McCleese put one on frame that was saved in the 31st minute
  • The Titans had a corner kick in the 36th minute that did not produce a shot
  • The Phoenix had a few attempts in the last five minutes with Muskovac coming up with a save and the Titans getting a bit of luck as the rebound went right to a Green Bay player who fired hired in the last 20 seconds of the period

Second Period:
  • Doyle had a shot that was saved just two minutes in
  • Detroit Mercy had a corner kick at 55:40 and junior Olivia Parra was able to get a head on it and it was sent over the net
  • Muskovac came up with another save in the 78th minute
  • The Titans had a corner kick at 81:37 and that resulted in a shot wide by junior Sophie Mapes
  • Detroit Mercy would get the ball right back and McCleese had a boot that was saved at 83:15

First Overtime:
  • Both teams had one shot that did not get on frame

Second Overtime:
  • The Titans had a corner kick just four minutes in
  • Muskovac was injured with less than a minute to go and in came Emke in her collegiate debut
  • With 15 seconds remaining, the Phoenix had a header on net that Emke pulled down

Game Notes:
  • The Titans still lead the overall series 23-3-4 and are 7-1-3 in the last 11 meetings
  • Last season, the Titans beat Green Bay on the road in overtime
  • Permanent lighting was recently completed at Titan Field with the total cost of the lighting project at $600,000, funded completely through philanthropic gifts from nearly 30 donors
