INDIANAPOLIS (1/4/2020) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team dropped a road game at IUPUI on Saturday afternoon, falling to the host Jaguars by an 82-45 margin from The Jungle in Indianapolis. Sophomore guard Jiera Shears and freshman forward Bridgid Fox shared the team lead in scoring with eight points each.

The Titans shot 34.7 percent from the floor (17-for-49) in the game, while IUPUI was efficient on field goal attempts, knocking down 52-percent (32-for-60) during the game. Detroit Mercy trailed after the first quarter, 18-8, and the Jaguars upped their advantage by halftime, leading 43-21 at the break. The Jaguars pulled away in the second half for the victory.

Fox connected on all three field goal attempts in the first half and had six points at the break. Shears had five points in the opening half, including a 3-pointer. Six Titans had more than five points in the contest with senior Zoey Oatis adding seven points and two steals, freshman guard Markyia McCormick totaling six points and both sophomore forward Nicole Johanson and freshman guard Annika Corcoran each scoring five points. Corcoran sank both of her shots and added a team-high four assists.

Detroit Mercy had seven steals in the game -- two by Oatis and two more by junior Aly Reiff. The Titans were out-rebounded in the game, 32-26, and made 2-of-17 shots from beyond the 3-point arc, while also sinking 9-of-12 free throw attempts. McCormick made all four shots at the free throw line.

Fox -- who entered the game shooting 54 percent -- finished the game hitting 4-of-7 shots for her eight points. Corcoran and Johanson each sank both of their field goal attempts in the game with Corcoran knocking down her only 3-point attempt for the second-straight game. Starks finished with a team-high six rebounds.

Five Jaguars were in double figures with three players at 12 points to lead the team -- Macee Williams, Katelyn O'Reilly and Sydney Roule.

• The Titans had seven steals in the contest and have 26 across their past three contests (8.7 per game).
• Shears scored a season-high eight points in the game; It was her fifth game of the season with five or more points.
• Since entering the starting lineup, Fox is averaging 8.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game (six starts).
• Corcoran had four assists for the third time in the past five games for the Titans.
• It was the fifth meeting between the two women's basketball programs.

Up Next
Detroit Mercy returns to the hardwood next weekend, hosting Milwaukee and Green Bay from Calihan Hall on Thursday, Jan. 9 and Saturday, Jan. 11, respectively. It opens a stretch of four games at home for the Titans with the red, white and blue hosting Youngstown State and Cleveland State the following weekend.
