DETROIT (2/21/2020) -- Sophomore
Antoine Davis posted a team-high 29 points and the Titans erased a second-half 11-point deficit, but a late run by Green Bay proved to be crucial as the Detroit Mercy men's basketball team dropped an 84-67 game to the Phoenix on Friday night.
Davis was 10-of-21 from the field and 7-of-8 from the line, hitting a pair of 3-pointers, and he also had three rebounds, three steals and two assists. Sophomore
Marquis Moore tallied 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds and junior
Dwayne Rose Jr. scored 12 points with three caroms.
The Titans (6-22, 4-11 HL) scored the first five points of the game, but Green Bay (14-14, 9-6 HL) came back to take the lead by as many as nine in the first half and 44-36 at the break.
In the second half, the Phoenix opened with a three for a 47-36 lead, but the Titans started to chip away as Davis scored 12 points in the first five minutes and a layup that tied the game at 55-55 with 13:13 left. Rose Jr. would hit a basket for a 57-57 contest at the 11:52 mark, but Green Bay would go on a run to open a double-digit lead and the Titans could not go on one more spurt.
Freshman
Sam Hofman had six points and a season-high six rebounds, while sophomore
Chris Brandon had two points and six boards along with a block.
The Titans were 19-of-21 (90.5%) at the line and had seven steals in the game.

First Period:
- Moore started the scoring with a layup and a foul, converting the free throw and then Davis had a layup for a 5-0 lead
- Rose Jr. hit a jumper and Davis got to the rim for a score and it was 11-8 Titans just five minutes in
- Green Bay went on a spurt for a 24-17 spurt at the midway point
- The Titans cut into that with a free throw from Rose Jr. and a 3-pointer by Moore
- A 6-0 run by the Titans had the team in front, 27-26, as Moore had four-straight points and Davis hit a jumper at 6:08
- A triple by Rose Jr. had the team down just one, 31-30, with 4:46 left
- Green Bay took a 44-34 lead, but Hofman was able to grab an offensive rebound and scored to make it 44-36 at the break
Second Period:
- Green Bay scored first, but Davis - who scored 10 points alone in the first 4:23 - had six-straight points to cut the lead to 47-43 with 17:13 left
- A couple of Davis 3-pointers had the team within three, 51-48, with 16:07 remaining
- The Titans inched even closer as Moore got inside for a layup and was fouled along with his three-point play that had the team trailing by just two, 53-51, with 15:22 on the clock
- Detroit Mercy played some tough defense and forced a miss and then Davis came up with a steal and went the distance for a layup to tie the game at 55-55 with 13:13 left
- Green Bay would then go on a 21-5 run over the next nine minutes to take a 76-60 lead with 4:02 remaining
- Hofman ended that run with a bucket inside off a pass from Davis
- Redshirt senior Brad Calipari was fouled on a three and hit all three free throws to cut it to 78-65 with 2:33 remaining
Game Notes:
- Detroit Mercy trails the all-time series, 34-26
- Detroit Mercy came into the game leading the HL and third in the country in free-throw percentage at 78.9 percent, connecting on at least 20 or more free throws six times this season
- Senior Justin Miller did not play due to an undisclosed injury
- Davis came into the game sixth in the country and leading the Horizon League in scoring at 23.2 points per game
