Women's Lacrosse Drops Home Contest to Jacksonville

PONTIAC, Mich. (2/23/2020) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team dropped a 22-4 home contest with old ASUN conference foe and visiting Jacksonville on Sunday afternoon from Ultimate Soccer Arenas. It was the second home contest of the season for the Titans (0-4).

Junior attacker Kamryn Corraro scored two goals, junior attacker Kristina Ellis added one goal and one assist and sophomore midfielder Elise Harder had the other Titan goal for the Titans. Harder also had five draw controls and junior Taylor Cantelon added four draw controls as the Titans evened up Jacksonville on draws in the game, 13-13.

The Dolphins out-shot the Titans, 32-11, and were 14-for-14 on clear attempts, while the Titans were 6-of-18. Detroit Mercy did force 19 Jacksonville turnovers in the contest with freshman defender Kate Schmidt tallying three caused turnovers and senior midfielder Kaitlyn Wandelt also notching two caused turnovers. Six other Titans had CT as Detroit Mercy recorded 11 caused turnovers in the game overall.

Jacksonville scored the first two goals of the game before Corraro scored unassisted at the 28:08 mark of the first half. The Dolphins scored the next five goals before Ellis scored a goal with the Titans down a player to make it 7-2. Jacksonville scored the final seven goals of the first half to take a 14-2 lead at the break. Corraro's late goal was her sixth of the season.

The Dolphins extended their advantage in the second half with Harder and Corraro scoring late in the contest for the red, white and blue.

Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Shrader made three saves in net for the Titans, while junior GK Maddie Johnson had two saves. Sophomore midfielder Taryn McManus and Schmidt each had three ground balls for the red, white and blue, while seniors Maeve Grady, Tegan McManus and Wandelt and Shrader all had two ground balls apiece.

Up Next
Detroit Mercy returns to the field next weekend, playing three-straight road games beginning with a Saturday, Feb. 29 match-up in New York against Manhattan. The Titans then head to South and North Carolina for games with Winthrop and Gardner-Webb on March 5 and March 8, respectively.
