Women's Basketball Announces 2020-21 Non-Conference Schedule

DETROIT (7/6/2020) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball program has announced the first part of its 2020-21 schedule on Monday as the Titans are slated to play nine non-conference games during the months of November and December.

The Titans, entering their 44th season as a program and first under head coach AnnMarie Gilbert, are set to play six games away from Detroit and three contests from the friendly confines of Calihan Hall and Dick Vitale Court.

"I am very excited about our non-conference schedule," head coach AnnMarie Gilbert said. "A tough Michigan State game, five MAC opponents and a balance of away games will prepare us well for Horizon League play. And since championships are usually won on the road, our six away non-league games will help us to be battle-tested for conference play."

Detroit Mercy will open the season with two straight on the road, beginning with a Nov. 10 date against Jesuit-rival Loyola (Ill.) in Chicago. The Titans then head to Valparaiso for a Nov. 13 battle from Indiana. The home opener is set for Nov. 18 as Detroit Mercy hosts Mid-American Conference opponent Northern Illinois for the first time since the 2000-01 season.

The red, white and blue are then back on the road for four consecutive games as Detroit Mercy heads to its furthest destination in playing Omaha from Nebraska on Nov. 21. Detroit Mercy will then travel to East Lansing during Thanksgiving weekend for a Nov. 29 contest against Big Ten foe Michigan State.

The Titans close out the non-league schedule with four-straight against MAC opponents in December -- two on the road and two at home. Detroit Mercy visits Akron on Dec. 2 before making the short trek to Toledo on Dec. 5. Detroit Mercy then hosts back-to-back games in December, welcoming in-state foes Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan to Calihan Hall on Dec. 9 and Dec. 14, respectively.

It's a tough non-league schedule with six of the nine opponents having recorded a winning record and at least 15 victories during the 2019-20 school year. Overall, the nine non-league foes put together a record of 129-142 last season.
