Erica Toupin each added an assist as Detroit Mercy battled in a hard fought Metro Series thriller before falling on a golden goal heartbreaker in overtime to arch-rival Oakland on Wednesday night at Titan Field.
The Titans (3-13-2, 2-7-2 HL) out shot Oakland (10-8-1, 9-1-1 HL) 14-13 with each team recording seven shots on goal.
Oakland opened up the scoring in the 11th minute as Sami Lopez's shot deflected off a defender past Detroit Mercy goalkeeper
Jazmine Scott for a 1-0 lead.
The Titans responded in the 19th as Stanley took a pass from Lorkowski and moved down the right hand side of the box. She sidestepped the Oakland defender and sent a pinpoint cross through traffic right on to the leg of Piechocki who beat Myla Danek to the lower right side of the net for the equalizer.
In the 59th minute of the second half, Detroit Mercy took the lead off a corner kick as Toupin sent a cross into the box that Soraghan connected on a header in the back of the net for a 2-1 advantage.
The Golden Grizzlies added the equalizer in the 68th minute setting the stage for overtime.
In the 98th minute of overtime, Oakland sent in a long ball in which a Detroit Mercy defender tried to head forward. However, the ball went backwards and ended up on the foot of Alex Sabagh who connected on the golden goal.
