McAdoo Ties Career High, Davis Reaches 20 In Setback At Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio (11/13/2021) -- Graduate senior Kevin McAdoo tied his career-high with 21 points and senior Antoine Davis reached the 20-point plateau for the 60th time in his career as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team fell, 81-73, on Saturday night at Toledo.

McAdoo was 78-of-11 from the field and 5-of-7 from three with three assists and two rebounds. Davis netted 21 to go with six boards, a team-high four assists and two steals, while junior Madut Akec tallied a career-high15 points - all in the second half - with seven rebounds, two assists and a team-best two blocks. 

The Titans (0-2) started the game with a three from Davis and had a four-point lead, 25-21, with six minutes to go in the first half. Toledo (2-0) would end the half on a 10-2 run for a 43-35 lead.

In the second half, Detroit Mercy scored first again, but the Rockets increased their lead to double-digits at 50-39. The Titans would shave that all the way down to three, 52-49, going a 10-2 run with 11:40 left.

Toledo would stop that run and increase its lead to double digits again, but the red, white and blue would stay in it until a Rockets' run pushed the advantage all the way to 14, 72-58, late in the contest. 

Senior Prince Oduro had eight points and five rebounds and graduate senior DJ Harvey pulled down a team-high and tied his career-best with nine caroms and handed out two assists.

The Titans shot 42.2% in the game and were 10-of-28 from three, while just being outrebounded, 40-37.

The Titans will get a few days of practice in before hitting the road to face Mississippi State on Wednesday, Nov. 17. 

First Half:
  • Davis started the game by hitting a triple
  • The Titans tied the game as Davis and Oduro had back-to-back baskets to make it 10-10
  • Detroit Mercy would go on a 7-0 run as Harvey hit a jumper and then McAdoo followed with a bucket and a triple to make it 20-17 at the 10:09 mark
  • A jumper by McAdoo and another three had the Titans up 25-21 with 6:54 remaining
  • Oduro went up strong for a drunk and the red, white and blue led 27-24 with 5:51 left
  • Davis put the Titans out in front again, 30-29, nailing a three with 4:19 on the clock
  • McAdoo would knot the score at 33-33 with a three at 3:06
  • Toledo ended the half on a 10-2 run for a 43-35 lead at the break


Second Half:
  • Akec started the half with a jumper to cut the deficit to 43-37
  • Toledo raised the lead to as many as 11, 50-39, with 15:38 on the clock
  • Two free throws by Oduro and a basket by Davis got the Titans back into single digits
  • Detroit Mercy got within three, 52-49, with 11:40 on the clock as Akec, Davis and McAdoo all had buckets
  • Toledo had a nine-point lead when Akec nailed a three with 10 minutes to go to make it 58-52
  • The Rockets would then go up by as many as 14, 72-58, with less than four minutes remaining
  • A three by McAdoo and a jumper by Davis had the Titans within eight, 77-69, with 1:05 left

Game Notes:
  • The Titans now trail the series 36-25
  • Detroit Mercy is 181-123 all-time against the MAC
  • McAdoo also scored 23 points as a member of Eastern Michigan against Sam Houston State in 2017-18
  • It was the third career 20-point game for McAdoo
  • Harvey also had nine rebounds at Syracuse in 2018 as a member of Notre Dame
  • Akec has eclipsed career highs in both games this season
  • Davis now has 60 career 20-point games, 20 career 30-point outings and four 40-point contests in just 84 collegiate games and has also scored in double figures in all 84 games - reaching at least 17 points in 67 of them
  • Davis has now hit 57 consecutive free throws, the longest streak in the country
  • Davis now has 692 career field goals, moving past Archie Tullos and into seventh place in school history
  • Davis now has 2,077 career points, moving past NKU's Drew McDonald and into eighth place in the Horizon League record book
  • His 2,077 career points are just 90 behind John Long for second place and 242 in back of Phillips for the all-time school mark
