ROCHESTER, Mich. (2/28/2021) -- University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer freshman
Isaac Shiner scored his first collegiate goal in the first half of Sunday's road contest at Oakland University, but the Titans dropped a Horizon League match with the Golden Grizzlies, 3-1. The match was played indoors at the Grizz Dome on the campus of OU.
Oakland (3-1-1)Â took a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute of the match and just two minutes later, the Titans (1-4) were forced to play a man down as junior
Kyle Bandyk received his second yellow card of the match, resulting in a red card.
Undeterred, the Titans knotted the game up just three minutes later in the 36th minute on a corner kick. Sophomore
Rocco Galati took the corner kick and sent it to the far post, with the ball headed by junior
Ryan Halloran back in front of the goal with Shiner finishing on the header to tie the match, 1-1.
That score would stand through halftime as the Titans held the shot advantage in the opening half, 6-5.
The Golden Grizzlies would take advantage of being up a man in the second half, firing off nine shots and adding goals in the 65th and 72nd minutes.
Shiner and freshman
Samory Powder each had two shots to lead the Titans. Junior
Ben Al-Gharabally also had a shot on goal, while junior goalkeeper
Devin Mendez made three saves in goal.
