GREEN BAY, Wis. (3/10/2021) -- University of Detroit Mercy freshman
Alexis McNeil scored her first collegiate goal off a header in the second half of Wednesday's road match with Green Bay, but the Titans dropped the contest, 4-1, from Aldo Santaga Stadium.
The host Phoenix (1-1, 1-1 Horizon League) scored off a header just 1:01 into the match and that score would stand until the halftime break, as the opening 45 minutes of play yielded just four shots total, two for each team. Green Bay scored an early goal in the second half on a header off a free kick and then added two more goals to go ahead, 4-0.
McNeil would score a goal off a corner kick as classmate
Erica Toupin sent a kick to the far post in the box, where McNeil headed it into the back of the net in the 77th minute. It would prove to be the final goal of the match for either side.
Both teams had eight shots in the match, with Green Bay holding the edge in shots on goal, 4-2. Toupin had a team-high two shots for the Titans, while freshman forward
Olivia Zulewski had the other shot on goal in addition to McNeil's goal. The Phoenix had the advantage in corner kicks, 4-2.
The Titans had a few good looks offensively late in the match as Toupin fired a shot just wide of the post and with just minutes remaining freshman
Paige Myers ripped a shot that was knocked down by Green Bay goalkeeper Isabel Dunning.
