Men's Lacrosse's Fast Start Leads To Win Over St. Bonaventure

DETROIT (3/13/2021) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team scored a school-record 10-straight goals at one point and never looked back as the Titans started the MAAC campaign with an 11-7 victory over St. Bonaventure on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Ryan Birney tied his career-high with three goals and sophomore Luke Majick posted two goals and two assists. Junior AJ Van Voorhis and freshman Will Edell also found the back of the net twice.

Senior Logan Shamblin made 14 saves and picked up five ground balls for the win, his 20th career victory tying him for the most in school history. Sophomore Owen Bruinius had three caused turnovers and two ground balls, while senior Paul Manuszak registered a game and career-high four caused turnovers and a game-high seven ground balls.

Graduate senior Alex Jarzembowski was 15-of-21 at faceoffs with four ground balls.

The Titans (1-1, 1-0 MAAC) saw St. Bonaventure (1-1, 0-1 MAAC) get on the board first less than four minutes into the game, but the Titans stormed right back as junior Cam Kostus tied it up at the 8:43 mark and that started a 10-0 spurt for the red, white and blue as they did now allow another goal until 5:48 in the third.

The Titans outshot the Bonnies, 48-38, and had a huge edge in ground balls, 38-18. Detroit Mercy was also 4-of-7 with the man-up and 16-of-20 on clears.

The Titans will be back in action next Saturday, Mar. 20, when they travel to Manhattan in a 7:00 p.m. start.
