Titans Fall to Colonials in 2021 Season Finale

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (5/6/2021) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team dropped its 2021 season finale on the road Thursday afternoon, falling to Robert Morris by a 21-5 margin from Joe Walton Stadium. The Titans concluded their 10-game slate with a 2-8 mark, both overall and in Mid-American Conference play.

Freshman Cat Kopchia scored two goals for the Titans, while sophomore attacker Annie Gilbert added two points on one goal and one assist. Junior Elise Harder and senior Kristina Ellis each added goals and freshman Julia Fortino tallied her first collegiate point with an assist on Ellis' goal late in the contest.

Sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Shrader made six saves in net for the red, white and blue during the opening 30 minutes of play, while senior goalie Maddie Johnson turned away five shots on goal during the final 30 minutes of action as the Titan netminders combined for 11 saves, the sixth game of 10 or more saves this season for Detroit Mercy. 

Senior Taylor Cantelon had a team-high four draw controls in the game and junior Taryn McManus added three for Detroit Mercy, which posted 10 draw controls as a team. The Titans had entered Thursday's match as the No. 2 team in the MAC in draw controls per game (14.22) and tallied at least 10 draw controls in eight of 10 games this season.

Kopchia led all Titan newcomers in goals (14) and points (17) this season, while Harder led the Titans offensively with 27 goals and 31 points in 10 games. Cantelon (57 DC) and McManus (44 DC) combined for over 100 draw controls on the season as a duo in the draw circle, as the Titans racked up 138 as a team.

It was the first meeting between the Titans and Robert Morris in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, since the 2017 season.
