DETROIT (1/13/21) - Graduate student Brandi Washington had a solid return to action scoring a career-high 20 points on 7-for-14 shooting from the field and 3-for-6 from 3-point range with six rebounds and two steals as Detroit Mercy fell 74-54 to visiting Northern Kentucky on Thursday night Calihan Hall. Graduate student Janna Lewis made the most of her time off the bench against her former team scoring in double figures for the third consecutive game with 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting with three rebounds and two assists.

Freshman Akyia Baker added a career-best eight points going 3-for-5 from the field and 2-for-3 from the charity stripe with a pair of assists and rebounds. Freshman Emma Trawally Porta posted a career-best five blocks while chipping in with four points and three rebounds. Sophomore Lucia Fleta Robles also added five points while connecting on her second 3-pointer of the season.

The battle on the glass proved to be the difference as Detroit Mercy (0-15, 0-8 HL) entered the game ranking second in the Horizon League in offensive rebounds but only had four on the night. Conversely, NKU (10-3, 4-2 HL) grabbed 18 offensive boards which led to 26 second chance points. The Norse also held a 45-29 overall rebounding advantage. Defensively, the Norse also racked up 21-8 points off turnovers advantage which proved costly for the Titans.

After the Titans trailed by 10 points, 32-22, at the half, NKU outscored Titans 20-14 in the third quarter to take a commanding 16-point lead heading into the fourth. In the fourth quarter both teams got hot from the field shooting 8-for-15 from the field (53.3%).
