The Titans struck first just eight minutes into the game as Powder sent a long cross into the box over to Pierson. Pierson took the ball at the top of the box, made a move past a defender and fired a missile of a shot past NKU (3-8-1, 1-4-0) goalkeeper Daniel Bermingham for a 1-0 lead.
The tandem delivered again but in reverse order just seven minutes later. This time, Pierson sent in a cross from deep on the right side into the box to Powder. Powder trapped the pass on his chest, let the ball bounce once and then ripped a rocket of a shot into the back of the net giving the Titans a 2-0 lead.
NKU had a golden opportunity to get on the board in the 44th minute with a penalty kick but Ben Hegge's attempt hit the crossbar.
Just three minutes into the second half, NKU was not going to be denied, scoring their first goal to cut the lead to 2-1.
In the 59th minute, NKU got another penalty kick chance which they converted for the equalizer to pull all square at 2-2.
Powder and Nino would connect on a thing of beauty as Powder took the ball deep into the right corner with a defender pressing him. He turned left and sent a long cross over into the box where Nino ran under and connected on a header into the left side of the net for the game-winner.
