Antoine Davis is moving closer to 3,000 career points and the NCAA record for 3-pointers and consecutive games in double figures and today, he was named to the John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top 50 Watch List.
The announcement was made on ESPN's SportsCenter and on ESPN.com.
It marks the third time that Davis has been named to the Wooden Award watch list and the third national awards list he is a nominee for this season, following the Naismith Award for the Player of the Year and the Bob Cousy Award for the nation's top point guard.
The three-time Lou Henson All-American and two-time USBWA All-District V selection is averaging 21.5 points, 6.0 assists and 2.0 rebounds through two games. He tallied 28 points and nine assists in the season opener, his 78th career game with 20 or more points, and now ranks 20th all-time in NCAA in scoring with 2,777 career points and seventh with 436 career triples.
Chosen by a preseason poll of national college basketball experts, the list is comprised of 50 student-athletes who are the early front-runners for the most prestigious honors in college basketball, the Wooden Award All American Team™ and Most Outstanding Player Award.
The players on the list are considered strong candidates for the 2023 John R. Wooden Award Men's Player of the Year presented by Wendy's. Players not chosen to the preseason list are still eligible for the Wooden Award™ mid-season list, late season list, and the National Ballot. The National Ballot consists of 15 top players who have proven to their universities that they meet or exceed the qualifications of the Wooden Award. Nearly 1,000 voters will rank in order 10 of those 15 players when voting opens prior to the NCAA Tournament and will allow voters to take into consideration performance during early round games.
The Wooden Award All American Team™ will be announced the week of the "Elite Eight" round of the NCAA Tournament. The winner of the 2023 John R. Wooden Award will be presented in Los Angeles in April.
