Second Quarter Run Propels Northern Kentucky Over Detroit Mercy

Titans enter 2022 Keeps Horizon League Championship as the No. 12 seed and will rematch No. 5 seed Northern Kentucky at 7 p.m. at BB&T Arena.

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (2/26/22) - Graduate Student Brandi Washington reached double figures in just her second game back from injury with a team-high 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting, 2-for-3 from 3-point range and 2-for-2 from the free throw line with five rebounds a block and assist. Sophomore Irene Murua added 10 points with seven rebounds on 4-of-9 shooting with a block as Detroit Mercy fell behind to a big second quarter run at Northern Kentucky to fall 67-44 on Saturday afternoon.

The Titans (1-28, 1-21 HL) enter the 2022 Keeps Horizon League Championship as the No. 12 seed and will rematch No. 5 seed Northern Kentucky (20-7, 14-6 HL) on Tuesday, Mar. 1 at 7 p.m. from BB&T Arena.

Senior Monique Pruitt had six points with seven rebounds while senior Imani McNeal chipped in with five points. Sophomore Lucia Fleta Robles and graduate student Tori Powell each dished out four assists which was a career-high for Fleta Robles. 

The Titans came out hot from the field to open the game shooting 7-for-12 (58%) to take a 16-12 first quarter lead. 

The Norse responded with a 13-0 run and 19-3 run overall to take a 30-18 lead at the end of the second quarter outscoring the Titans 17-2 in the frame.

NUK's run moved to 24-3 while Detroit Mercy went over eight minutes without scoring before a layup from Pruitt ended the long drought. The Norse went on to out score the Titans 23-8 to take a commanding 53-26 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

After only scoring 10 points in the second and third quarter, the Titans' offense got back on track in the fourth quarter with 18 points but NKU's lead was too large to overcome.
