INDIANAPOLIS (2/28/2022) -- For the sixth time in school history, a Titan has earned the conference's top honor as University of Detroit Mercy senior
Antoine Davis was tabbed the Horizon League Co-Player of the Year on Monday.
All awards were voted on by the League's head coaches.
He shared the honor with Oakland's Jamal Cain and follows two highly acclaimed academic honors he has recently won in a selection to the Horizon League All-Academic Team and CoSIDA Academic All‐District® 5 Men's Basketball Team, the first Titan men's basketball player to take home that honor in school history.
Davis is the fifth Titan to take home the honor following Rashad Phillips (2001, 2003), Jermaine Jackson (2000), Willie Green (2003) and Ray McCallum (2013). He is also the first Titan to make All-League four times with every one of those a first-team selection.
Davis leads the league and is currently third in the nation in scoring at 23.7 points per game as he is looking to top the conference for the fourth-straight year, which would be the most by any player in league history passing Loyola's Alfredrick Hughes (1983-85), who did it three times.
Davis is also second in the nation in 3-point field goals per game (3.96), sixth in total 3-pointers (103), 10th in minutes played per game (37:09) and total points (615), 31st in free-throw percentage (87.3%), 59th in assists (4.6) and 61st in three-point field goal percentage (37.7%). He leads the HL in three-point field goals per game, three-point field-goal percentage and free-throw percentage and second in total points and third in assists.
His 39 points at Hofstra and against Milwaukee is a HL and tied for the 22nd- most in the country and the eight triples in both are tied for the 25th most.
He is currently the Titan and Horizon League record holder with 419 career 3-pointers - which is 13th in NCAA history - now has a school-record 2,655 points, 30th in NCAA history and third in the HL record book, just 41 out of second and 259 shy of the all-time mark.
Davis and Detroit Mercy will open the Keeps Horizon League men's basketball championship on Tuesday as the sixth-seeded Titans host 11th-seeded Green Bay on Dick Vitale Court in Calihan Hall with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m.
