DAYTON, Ohio (2/4/2022) -- Graduate senior
DJ Harvey scored a career-high 20 points, but Wright State went on a big run early and the Titans could not catch up as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team fell 90-59 on the road on Friday night.
Harvey was 6-of-8 from the field and 4-of-5 from three and he also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Senior
Antoine Davis had 15 points, a team-best four assists and three boards, while junior
Madut Akec netted 11 points with five rebounds.
Detroit Mercy (8-11, 5-4 HL) had an early lead, but Wright State (13-10, 10-4 HL) went on a 17-2 run in the first half to open a 42-25 lead at the break. Â
In the second half, the Titans tried to chip away, but WSU stayed hot from the field.
Graduate senior
Kevin McAdoo finished with eight points and three assists. Senior
Willy Isiani had a three and sophomore
Kyle LeGreair had two points and two rebounds.
The Titans will now have a quick turnaround as they head to NKU for a 7:00 p.m. tip tomorrow night.Â
First Half:
- After Wright State took a 4-0, Davis hit a three and Akec went inside for two
- Akec then hit a jumper and Davis scored for a 9-6 lead just four minutes in
- A triple by Harvey gave the teams a 12-10 lead at the 14:52 mark
- WSU scored seven in a row until Harvey broke that with a three to make it 17-15 with 12:01 on the clock and he drained another for a 21-18 score at 9:02
- Wright State went on a 17-2 run over the next seven minutes until Davis ended that with a three to make it 38-23 with 1:43 remaining
- Off a Harvey steal, McAdoo went inside for a layup and it was a 42-25 game at the break
Second Half:
- McAdoo hit a basket and a triple from Akec cut it to 46-30 early on
- Harvey was able to get to the free-throw line on two possessions and his four free throws had the Titans down 59-38 halfway through the half
- Akec hit a jumper for a 68-42 game with under seven minutes
- Davis went to the rim for a layup and was fouled and his free throw made it 70-45
- Isiani hit a three with 2:36 left on the clock for an 81-55 score
Game Notes:
- Wright State has won 17 of the last 21 overall for a 37-27 series lead and has won eight in a row at the Nutter Center for a 20-9 all-time record at home
- Davis now has 2,463 career points, the highest active scorer in the country in total points.
- Davis came into the year fifth all-time in NCAA history with 3.93, three-point field goals per game and has connected on a 3-pointer in 34-straight games and 96 of his 100collegiate games
- He is currently tied for 25th in NCAA history in total 3-pointers with 389
- Akec has scored in double figures in 16 games this season
- Harvey's previous career high was 19 points on three occasions, all with Notre Dame and Vanderbilt
- Harvey is averaging 15.3 points on 61.5% shooting (16-of-26) and 56.2% from three (9-of-16)
