BIRMINGHAM, Mich. (3/2/2022) -- Redshirt sophomore
Charlotte Dale had three points and was part of a quintet of Titan goal scorers on the day, but an early run by Central Michigan made it difficult to overcome as the University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team fell, 18-6, to the visiting Chippewas on Wednesday afternoon.
The game was played at Seaholm High School in Birmingham, Michigan.Â
The loss dropped the Titans tom 0-4 on the season and 0-2 in the MAC, while CMU moved to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in league play.
Dale recorded two assists and a goal. Sophomore
Cat Kopchia netted two goals, while seniors
Elise Harder and
Taryn McManus and junior
Annie Gilbert all found the back of the net.
Graduate senior
Maddie Johnson made six saves in net and junior
Hannah Shrader stopped five shots. Redshirt senior
Taylor Cantelon collected a game-high seven draw controls.
The Titans saw CMU take a 6-0 lead until early in the second when Harder got the team on the board with a free-position goal and Kopchia followed with a strike after a Cantelon win at the draw.
Detroit Mercy added one more marker in the second as Dale found Gilbert, who beat the keeper to make it 9-3.
Kopchia struck again early in the third to get the Titans within eight, 12-4, and Detroit Mercy scored the final two goals on a Dale strike at the 4:19 mark and then she fed McManus for a goal a little before the one-minute mark.Â
The Titans won the battle at the draw, 15-13, and were 1-for-1 in free position attempts.
Detroit Mercy will be back in action this weekend when the Titans head to Butler on Sunday, March. 6, in a 2:00 p.m. match-up.Â
