DETROIT (8/26/2022) -- Three former University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball players recently signed professional contracts.
Paris Bass will stay in the NBA as he reportedly inked a one-year contract with the Utah Jazz. Bass - the 2015 Horizon League Freshman of the Year - played in the NBA last season with the Phoenix Suns, appearing in two games over the course of two 10-day contracts.
He also played last season in the G-League with the South Bay Lakers ( Los Angeles Lakers' G League affiliate), where he tallied 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. He then played this summer with the Lakers' Summer League team, where he averaged 8.1 points and 3.2 rebounds in eight games.
Ray McCallum - the three-time All-Horizon League selection and the 2013 HL Player of the Year - will continue his great pro career with Legia Kosz in the Polish First Division. Last year, he played in France, Germany and Spain and tallied 11.5 points and 2.5 assists per game in Eurocup with Hamburg Towers and 13.4 points with 5.1 assists per game with Jeep Elite in France.
McCallum ended his Titan career eighth all-time in scoring (1,618) and seventh in assists (451) as he helped Detroit Mercy to two-straight postseason appearances with a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2012 and the NIT in 2013. McCallum was the 22nd Titan to be drafted when he was selected in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings with the 36th pick. He played in 154 career games in the NBA with the Kings, Spurs and Grizzlies before embarking on an illustrious career overseas.

Matt Johnson signed with CAB Madeira in one of the top leagues in Portugal. The 2021 Horizon League Sixth Player of the Year saw action in 51 games with 20 starts in his two seasons with the Titans, tallying 7.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists, shooting 41.9 percent from the field, 40.6 percent from three and 85.0 percent at the free-throw line.
