Box Score
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (8/25/22) - The freshman tandem of
Tim Allos and
Casey McCarthy recorded their first career collegiate points as Allos scored his first career goal off an assist from McCarthy in the 81st minute giving Detroit Mercy a 2-1 lead. However, Jacksonville got a late equalizer in the 87th minute as the Titans and Dolphins played to a 2-2 draw in the season opener on Thursday night. Senior
Matthew Andres also connected on a header off a cross from junior
Samory Powder to open scoring for the Titans just six minutes into the game.
Redshirt sophomore
Jonathan Kliewer posted a career-high 11 saves while facing 20 shots.
The Titans struck early as Powder took the ball deep into the corner, made a move around a defender, and delivered a fantastic cross into the box where Andres hit a pinpoint header to beat JU goalkeeper Christian Sekanina to the far right side for a 1-0 lead.
Jacksonville responded with the equalizer in the 12th minute to draw even at 1-1.
Both teams played even for a majority of the second half before Allos took a long feed from McCarthy past a defender who overplayed the ball and slotted a slot past the charging Sekanina to the low left side giving the Titans a 2-1 lead.
The Titan lead looked promising until a foul just in front of the right corner kick circle gave Jacksonville a free kick. The Dolphins cashed in on the set piece as Kliewer could not secure the cross which deflected off his hands right down to the foot of JU captain Joshua Araujo-Wilson who netted the loose ball for Jacksonville's second equalizer of the match.
The Titans conclude their Florida road swing at Stetson on Sunday, Aug. 28th at 12 p.m.
