ANN ARBOR, Mich. (9/12/22) - Junior
Samory Powder scored his second goal of the season off the first career assist from freshman
Guershom Sylvain as Detroit Mercy took a 1-0 second half lead but could not hold on as the Titans fell 2-1 at Michigan on Monday night.
In the 67th minute, Power took a feed from Sylvain on the left side, turned, and ripped a shot into the upper 90 past U-M goalkeeper Hayden Evans giving Detroit Mercy (1-3-1) a 1-0 lead.
However, the Titan lead would not last as Michigan (2-3-1) connected on the equalizer in the 73rd minute which was just their second goal of the season. Detroit Mercy was then called for a hand ball inside the box just 1:10 later. The Wolverines capitalized and converted the ensuing penalty kick for the eventual game-winning goal.
Detroit Mercy had two solid scoring opportunities in the first half as Sylvain turned and belted a shot to the low right side where Evans made a diving save in the eighth minute. In the 26th minute off a corner kick, freshman
Spencer Powe had a loose ball fall to his foot but his shot missed high over the crossbar at point blank range.
Detroit Mercy returns home to Titan Field to open Horizon League play against Cleveland State on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.
