RICHMOND, Ky (9/8/22) - Freshman
Sophia Blankenship and senior
Taylor Stanley each posted two shots on goal while graduate student
Julie Ann Piechocki had three shots as Detroit Mercy fell short 1-0 at Eastern Kentucky on Thursday afternoon.
In the second half, the game remained scoreless until EKU (3-2) finally broke through in the 71st minute off a corner kick set piece to take a 1-0 lead.
Despite only having two shots in the second half, the Titans' (2-4-1) second attempt was their best chance for the equalizer in the 86th minute. Blankenship broke free just behind the defense, dribbled to the left side just inside the box and ripped a shot to the right side. However, EKU goalkeeper Lauren Seedlock was able to close down the angle and make a diving save to turn away the shot.
Both team defenses stood tall during the first half as neither team was able to get on the board. EKU held a 8-6 shots advantage while the Titans held a 3-2 shots on goal advantage.
Detroit Mercy returns to Titan Field to open Horizon League play against Northern Kentucky on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.
