HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky (10-21-23) - For the second consecutive game, sophomore
Abbey Lodato scored a goal for her team-best sixth of the season off an assist from sophomore
Sophia Blankenship as Detroit Mercy fell 3-1 at Northern Kentucky in #HLWSOC action on Saturday afternoon.
Senior
Jazmine Scott made a season-second-best six saves for the second time this season as NKU (7-3-6, 4-2-3 HL) posted 10 shots on goal.
Lodato wasted little time getting Detroit Mercy (6-8-3, 4-5 HL) on the board just nine minutes into the game. Blankenship took the ball deep down on the left side, tuned, and delivered a cross into the box. Lodato maneuvered between defenders and connected on a header to the low right corner past NKU goalkeeper Mickayla Kowalski giving the Titans a 1-0 lead.
However, the Norse struck right back with the equalizer just 23 seconds later in the 10th minute. NKU then took a 2-1 lead in the 36th minute.
In the 56th minute of the second half, NKU added another goal to take a 3-1 lead. Just after the goal at the 57:26 mark, NKU's Maria Wiefering was booked for her second yeller resulting in a red card leaving the Norse a man down for the rest of the game.
However, the Titans were unable to capitalize off four corner kick opportunities down the stretch followed by a free kick set piece just outside the box in the 84th minute.
Detroit Mercy concludes the #HLWSOC regular season with a Metro Series showdown against arch-rival Oakland on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.
