Guershom Sylvain also added a shot on goal as Detroit Mercy suffered a 2-0 Metro Series setback at arch-rival Oakland on Wednesday afternoon at the Oakland Soccer Field. The Titans will now enter the 2023 #MSOC Championships as the No. 4 seed and will host No. 5 seed Purdue Fort Wayne at Titan Field on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
Sophomore
Quinn Tews made five saves in goal.
Both teams batted evenly over the first 20 minutes of the game until Oakland (7-8-2, 6-3 HL) broke through with a tally in the 21st minute and maintained the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Detroit Mercy (5-9-3, 4-3-2 HL) turned up the offensive pressure in the second half earning three corner kick set-piece opportunities.
The Titans had their best chance to draw even late in the second half with two back-to-back corner kick chances. Allos received the cross into the box and fired a shot but OU goalkeeper Finn Jurak came up with a crucial save at the 69:49 mark.
On the ensuing corner kick at the 71:33 mark, sophomore
Casey McCarthy got the ball in space and delivered a shot but an Oakland defender was able to close the gap and block the shot.
The Golden Grizzles then put the game away scoring their second goal off a counterattack in the 83rd minute to seal the deal and earn the top seed in the upcoming league championship as the regular season champions.
