DETROIT (12/7/2023) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team inked a big recruit in the fall as
Michael Oaks (Houston, Tex./Southern California Academy) announced his commitment to the Titans.
"Michael is a big kid with a lot of potential and upside," said head coach
Mike Davis. "He is very skilled and I think he will be able to help us a lot."
Oaks is a 6-10, 210-lb forward who played high school at St. Thomas in Houston with an additional prep year at Southern California Academy. He lettered in track and field and basketball in high school and posted game career highs of 27 points and 18 rebounds.
He was a two-time All-State and All-District nominee, who led his conference in rebounding with 11.8 per game as a senior. He also topped the team and was second in the league in blocks and double-doubles and led his squad in charges taken.
He helped St. Thomas to a district and region championship as a senior, helping the team to a 26-3 record.
The Titans will next play at Northwestern on Sunday.
