Antoine Davis scored a team-high 22 points connecting on four 3-pointers while going 4-for-4 from the line to finish just three points shy of tying the NCAA All-time scoring record held by "Pistol" Pete Maravich as No. 8 Detroit Mercy's upset bid came up just short at No. 1 Youngstown State, 71-66, on Thursday night in 2023 Babrasol #HLWBB Championship quarterfinal action on Tuesday night.

With the game tied at 49-49 at the 11:16 mark, graduate student
Damezi Anderson (who finished with five points) knocked down his first 3-pointer of the game followed by back-to-back and-1 conversions by Oliver and Tankersley which capped off a 9-2 run giving Detroit Mercy a 58-55 lead. YSU clawed by the tie the game once again at 60-60 before Davis hit his fourth three-pointer of the game moving the Titans ahead 63-60 with 4:19 left. However, that would be the last field goal the Titans would hit from the field for the rest of the game. Liddell split a pair of free throws tying the game at 64-64 with 2:28 left. The Penguins then scored the next five points to put the game out of reach with 16 seconds left. YSU then got called for a celebration technical foul which allowed Davis to hit both free throws giving him 22 points. After YSU hit another pair of attempts from the charity stripe, Davis missed a 3-pointer that would have tied Maravich's all-time scoring record as time expired.
In total, Detroit Mercy went 0-for-9 down the stretch from the field with Davis missing his last six attempts from the field while YSU closed the game out on an 11-3 run.
Trailing 9-6 early in the first half, the Titans went on an 11-0 run to move ahead 17-9. Detroit Mercy finished the half going 14-for-30 (46.6%) from the field to take a four-point lead, 33-29, at the half with YSU shooting 13-for-28 (46.4%).
