HOUSTON (3/30/2023) -- University of Detroit Mercy graduate senior
Antoine Davis recorded another title to his legendary career as he won the annual College Three-Point Championship on Thursday night.
The event was televised nationally on ESPN2 at the Bayou Music Center in downtown Houston, the city that is hosting this year's Final Four.
Davis also added to a legacy of Titans winning at the annual college all-star competition as Doug Anderson captured the slam dunk contest in 2013 and women's basketball's Brigid Mulroy won the 2009 three-point showdown.
The two-time Horizon League Player of the Year and two-time Honorable Mention All-American excited the crowd right from the start, hitting 19 of his 25 shots and posting a 25 to easily advance to the semifinals. In the semifinals, he made 15 of his 25 shots for 18 points to land in the finals.
In the championship, he faced former Cleveland State Viking and current Missouri standout D'Moi Hodge, and after a slow start, he picked it up and won it in style, clearing the final rack for 18 points and an 18-16 victory and a cash prize of $5,000.
At the end of the show, he battled the women's champion in Iona's Kate Mager, but the Gael got the best of him, claiming a 21-19 victory.
Davis holds four NCAA records in total 3-pointers (588), 3-pointers by a freshman (132), consecutive games in double figures (144) and total games in double figures (144). His 3,664 career points is second in NCAA history, just three shy of Pete Maravich's record 3,667, while his 1,219 field goals are sixth all-time in the NCAA record book. Davis' 4.08, three-point field goals per game are third all-time in NCAA history as he hit a 3-pointer in 139 of his 144 collegiate games - including 48-straight at one point - and had 82 career games with four or more triples, 33 with six or more, 17 games with seven or more, five games with 10 or more with a Horizon League tournament record 10 against Robert Morris in 2021 and a school-record 11 versus RMU in 2023.
