KALAMAZOO, Mich. (9-13-23) - Detroit Mercy fell 5-0 to in-state foe Western Michigan in non-conference action on Wednesday night at the WMU Soccer Complex.
"A tough result away at Kalamazoo. Western Michigan is a good team and brought the fight we expected them to bring," said Head Coach
Nate Kopunek. "Overall, I thought we were able to create some good moments throughout the game. Unfortunately, we didn't execute in certain moments and got punished. We can and will be better as we continue to mold this team together to compete in the Horizon League."
Junior
Robby Spradlin III made four overall saves keeping WMU (4-1-1) off the board for the first 30 minutes of the game before the Broncos broke through with a tally in the 31st minute to take a 1-0 lead.
After Western Michigan moved ahead 3-0, freshman
Drew Pierson fired a long shot on target for the Titans (0-6) but was directly at the goalkeeper in the 56th minute.
Detroit Mercy had its best chance to get on the board late in the match as junior
Andri Myftari got behind two defenders deep inside the box but couldn't connect on a long feed in that just missed the goal to the left side.
